Jonquilla Daffodils

A colorful silver and gold jonquil, Oma seems a little more compact and bright than Edged in Gold and New Baby, although I have yet to compare them side by side. Newer release: this daffodil is not registered.

From an anonymous origin, Orange Queen is a wavy cupped old jonquil . Classified as a dwarf, she is more imposing than implied, freely growing and floriferous to three blooms on a stem. Good North and South. ADS Historic.

A little late 20th century Apodanthi x Apodanthi cross, Pequenita is a miniature, well-formed jonquil that grows well and is notably tidy and consistent : a natural show flower. Early. ADS Miniature.

A more recent floriferous jonquil from Brian Duncan. Perpetua is all yellow and extremely late blooming.

A species on species jonquil cross by Grant Mitsch that is upright and fabulous in the garden. Pixie's Sis has been around for a long while, but has suffered some major career setbacks through no fault of her own. Highly reflexed and richly colored, but not sulfurous, Razzmatazz is yet another entrancing elfin bloom from the late Mr Walter Blom. Floriferous with the spirit of a triandrus combines with the foliage and uplift of a jonquils. Multiple layers of charm on a stick.

A feisty little thing, Road Runner is named not for the flower but for the way it increases . Has a whole reverse bi-color thing going on along with vigor, detail and substance. Very popular.Beep Beep.

A chatty and vivacious jonquil. Sabrosa is a delicious cross between the two species N.rupicola and N.jonquilla. A star player in the container and rock garden Sabrosa is petite and late, an ADS Miniature.

A floriferous and scented Jonquilla / viridiflorus cross from the California Nursery of Harold Koopowitz. Fall winter blooming in week 52. Exhibits the fortitude and substance of other viridiflorus crosses. Probably most suited to zone 8 and 9 .

A yellow / orange Jonquilla is an uncommon thing, finding a deep, contasty, colored Y-O jonquilla in the trade is even more rare. Shirley's Art is daffodil I have wanted to have and to show for a while now . One to three blooms per scape.

Alex Gray was one of the most prolific breeder of daffodils of the mid 20th century. Of his many tiny Jonquils seedlings I like his Stafford the most for its bright color scheme. Take two, they are small. ADS miniature.

Stocken is thought to be an older selection of N.willkommii. Precious little thing. ADS Miniature.

On points alone, Alec Gray's Sun Disc is a perfect cultivar : Extremely late, rounded, miniature, long stemmed, long lasting, increases, looks right at you and smells good. Widely available, but we list it because you just need a few to get going. Sells on the cut market when all of the other daffs are long in the tooth.

The late German horticulturist Theo Sander's extensive work in coaxing fertile offspring from Jonquil crosses was methodical and groundbreaking. Here we can appreciate one of his many seedlings, Theo's Gold is on first site striking in its substance, profound color and overall virility. This a remarkable plant that is tirelessly interesting.

N.willkommii Section Jonquilla A lovely and refreshing thing, we like to think that Ferdinand the Bull was put out to pasture in a field of Willkommii under the cork trees in Spain. Endemic to Spain and southern Portugal.

A Brian Duncan jonquil that slowly unfolds to all white with a green eye. Brings a soft and romantic patina to the vase, brings a gift of the Blarney to the bench. Wonderfully late, three blooms to the stem. A popular item.
