A recent yellow and white triandrus with modulating colors on its way to the final chorus. Floriferous, scented, and substantial with lovely color. A reverse bi-color. From Chipper , inherits the lovely velvety substance. Named after the Beatles record album released in 1969.

1 W-W
Arguably the most successful daffodil breeder of all time, this miniature all-white trumpet is an encomium to Alec Gray. Stunningly well formed. A joy wherever he goes. Garden State bred.
4 W-Y
A newer double that is most like a lotus blossom when it opens a mild- yellow with an alluring symmetry. As Ambon matures into clear white and pale yellow it gets wide and wild. This is a superior cultivar, I am surprised that it is not offered more widely. A fine cut flower, in the landscape Ambon blooms a bit in the leaves.
This Daffodil is named for a city in the Moluccas in Indonesia, once a Dutch colony before they were asked to leave after the Second World War.
7 W-WWP
As we have pointed out elsewhere pink cupped jonquilla are a bit of a rare bird. Amore Mio is pink-cupped, lush, lightly blushed and floriferous. A sophisticated van der Veek seedling
4 W-W
Androcles pulled a thorn from the paw of a pursuing lion who in turn befriended him for life. Androcles the daffodil has calmed and dethorned us also: we depend on this double daffodil in large numbers for the vase and the border. Its broad, softly cream colored, and long lasting blooms project a quiet roar . There are a lot of pale white / yellow doubles, but all- whites are more rare. Bred by the American Bill Pannill, a businessman who created many perfect blooms one at at time.
3 W-YYO
All the people are waiting for Angel Face,
She said she'd meet them down at their favorite place.
Dressed in yellow satin, white linen and lace,
She stood so high with a smile on her face.
5 Y-Y
Here's a pedigreed child: poppy is a species jonquil and mumsy a species triandrus. Angel's Breath is a vigorous grower and should be widely adaptable. We also list her sister, Angel's Whisper, who is similar. About 20 years old, Tasmanian bred. Small and robust. ADS Miniature.
5 Y-Y
Angel's Whisper : An equally robust sister to Angel's Breath. Both are a species Jonquil x species triandrus cross. From Tasmania.
2 W-YYO
Beefy and bright April Queen is an older variety that is enjoying a newly found cult of admirers. A stellar landscape daffodil : Plant a few bulbs and in a couple of turns of the planet you will have a Queen'e entourage. Blooms bright, tall and well out of the leaves. In zone 6a she is more of an early May Queen.
5 Y-Y
April Tears is an Alec Gray cross of species N.jonquilla and N.triandrus. An ol dfavorite of the division. Blooms too late to be of much use above zone 7a, Seed parent to the terrific Tripartite, similar to Hawera. Triandrus seem to prefer slightly acidic soil over alkaline.
10 Y-Y
A new introduction, Arctic Bells is a bulbocodium from Walter Blom. It is classified as a Yellow-Yellow, but it is more of a white flower, in the way that White petticoat is white. We were surprised to see the seed parent is the perfect bloomer : Border Beauty, picture attached. Who would think of that ?
2 W-GWW
A stunning all white large cup. More an ivory color than a clear white with a profound green eye. Possesses a regal, royal wave in the cup for all that pass by. Strength in numbers. Daughter of the widely grown Misty Glen.
4 W-Y
An antique double. A truly joyous bloomer that deserves a place in any border or cottage garden. Daughter of Telamonious Plenus and Ornatus. Given the parentage Argent should be expected to perform in the deep south, but I can't find any explicit mentions of that.
3 Y-R
Rounded profile, the small cup is richly colored and broad. Towards maturity the segments of Arid Plains blanch from solid yellow to partially white. From Brian Duncan.
2 W-W
A flower so sought after that we can't keep it in house. Large perfect all white large cup, Ashton Wold has a place in the landscape and on the bench.
13 Y-Y
N. assoanus subsp.assoanus var.assoanus. Section jonquilla. Native to Spain and southern France. A lovely grower, good for breeding.
3 W-Y
Astrid's Memory: White and Yellow small cupped show daffodil from Clive Postles.
8 Y-Y
Vivid two toned yellow offspring of Avalanche. You will need both hands and some toes to count the number of blooms on each scape. An ideal example of what makes Tazettas such great flowers in the garden and in the vase. Needs southern exposure and winter protection in Zone 6. A creation of the late Bill 'the Bulb Baron' Welch.
1 W-W
Hands down our pick for a white miniature daffodil. Aviva from Leone Low, a charming small miniature with clear star perianth and trumpet Leone named this daffodil after the daughter of her maid of honor. Aviva is the Swahili word for life. ADS Miniature.
4 Y-O
Ballistic. Bright perfectly formed, well structured double with 4 inch blooms. Full throated Kiwi style from New Zealand. There is a lot of crowd swell for this daffodil, it has a very bright future in the commercial market. Photographs don't do Ballistic justice. You will so want this daffodil when you see it. We did.
10 W-W
Here's a lively new bulbocodium introduction. Cup is lightly ribbed. She is not registered as such, but for the time being we are listing it as Ballroom Belle. It was acquired as Blom Hoop 2 - 146.
2 Y-O
An older orange large cupped daffodil, Banker is dependable and easily produces a flawless, substantial, and winning bloom.
3 W-YYO
Barri Conspicuous is one of the founding members of the Iron Ladies and Marathon Men Daffodil Club. A very old Backhouse seedling, aka Conspicuus, has broad petals for an antique, a long 90 degree neck, and a yellow petal color that transmogrifies to creamy white. The cup is a pleasing yet intense yellow orange with just the right amount of Victorian frilly bling. A truly great landscape flower that has been dug and replanted for 150 years, and with good reason. ADS Historic.
The Barr Family were well established daffodil merchants in London by the turn of the 20th century . The appellation "Barrii" or sometimes "Barri" was an early attempt at classification and was applied to many poeticus / pseudo narcissus crosses that they marketed. The tall stems of modern cultivars likely descends from these early crosses of the upright poeticus species. The Barri nomenclature is now commonly dropped.
3 Y-YYO
An old an bright small-cup, Narcissus Bath's Flame was once widely grown as a cut flower. A true classic that will never go out of style. Lithe and long lived. Based on the intense color that is coaxed out of the cup in the Dutch spring weather I think this daffodil would be classified as red, not orange in the cup if it was newly introduced today,
2 W-WWP
The daffodil diggers of North Holland consider themselves to be tough guys. It is never good to be "soft" and they will let you know it -- early and often. But here is the softest colored pink cup ever, and where does it come from ? But straight out of tough guy land. I think our florist friends will swoon and soften for Beau Beauté. She is a bit like High Society that has completed a course of anger management. New introduction from Carlos van der Veek.
2 W-YYP
New Introduction, White and yellow, pink-rimmed large cupped daffodil for competition from Brian Duncan.
3 W-W
We hesitate to deem Beautiful Dream as a good "filler" flower for the bouquet, although it succeeds any way you see fit to use it. Because of its gentle nature and its ability to elevate its neighbors, you may overlook its strength, frilly cup and lovely coloration. Like all things Grant Mitsch there is perfection here, but perfection does not exclude gentleness. Pollen and seed fertile. Granddaughter of China White. Don't be shy, we have a good stock of this daffodil.
2 W-P
Slender snouted and flared in pale pink, Beautiful Lady is ready-made for competition and vase-eye-candy. A newer Duncan seedling from the greatly missed Chanson.
3 W-GYY
Burgerbrug is a town in north Holland that is a hotbed of daffodil culture. Burgerbrug translates loosely to "The Citizen's Bridge". Unless you go down to the actual bridge, which is a kind of floating, single-lane drawbridge contraption, then you are in the neighborhood of "Burgervlotbrug" - The Citizen's Floating Bridge. Not for the faint of heart.
This is Carlo's encomium to his hometown and I am genuinely stunned at its beauty, an overlapping perianth update to Queen of the North, or something along those lines. New Introduction in 2023. Good stock.
7 Y-Y
Bebob is an Alec Gray miniature Jonquil with rich two-toned yellow color. Ma and Pa Bebop were both species, Daddy appears to be a poeticus. Confident like Mary Lou Williams and punchy like Dizzy Gillespie. Scented and petite.
6 W-O
Bell Fly is a recent posthumous introduction from Walter Blom, and what a high-spirited cyclamineus it is. Dare we say that it is broader, longer and more zippy than daffodil Iwona that we love so much ? Not pink, but orange cupped. An early dwarf, vigorous. We are unable to determine the origin of the name. Limited stock.
5 W-W
Theo Sanders triandrus cross Silver Bells x (Perpetuation x Limequjilla).
3 Y-YYO
My Best Friend has a round pale primrose moon face and thin orange ring on his very round corona. Such are the bonds of friendship. A real bench burner. By Clive Postles. Only a handful available.
3 W-O
An angular and fit new small-cupped introduction from C. van der Veek, Bestie throws a perfectly formed star shaped bloom, with a cantaloupe colored cup.
4 W-Y
This recent Mark Vandervliet double is makes a really perplexingly big bulb. The double flower is equally as big and supremely well organized and detailed. Like many sumo-sized doubles she blooms in the leaves a bit but on a plenty strong stem , so much the better for the vase, the bench, and the border. I have taken ribbons with this bloom . I would like to be greeted in my garden by a platoon of Big Girls, but alas small numbers yet.
6 W-GPP
Bilbo, named for Bilbo Boggins of the Hobbit, is an older seedling from earlier in the career of the prolific Brian S. Duncan but new to our list in 2026. A pink-cupped daffodil, it is tall for a cyclamineus and can develop wavy character in the blooms. From foundling, but more upright and vigorous.
2 W-P
White and pink large cupped daffodil for competition from Clive Postles. Very Limited.Exercise care with your handwriting : not to be confused with Binkie one of the very first reverse bi-colors.
4 W-O
Double daffodils are not the most ribbon-winning bunch: only the most rounded and orderly need apply. Blossom Lady, originating from New Zealand, is definitely a ribbon candidate: bright; colorful; well-formed; well-rounded. Way back in the family tree is the historic double Mary Copeland. Extremely limited.
7 Y-YYO
Bobbysoxer -- such a funny orange face on this Alec Gray jonquilla. Floriferous, friendly, fun. Diminutive but stands tall in the close-up garden bed and rockery. Old, but not a miniature nor a historic . ADS Classic.
2 W-P
You get a lot of rosy acreage in this older American bred large cup. Bold Pink is just that, and a kind of unique coloring for this form of daffy.
2 W-P/O
Bologna is a large-cup with an unusually colored and crenelated cup, from Dr, John Reed. This daffodil was registered in 2026.
4 W-P
A newer dwarf double, a stuffed cup like Popeye when he is behaving himself, in delicate cream and pink. This daffodil is unregistered and is being sold elsewhere as Bon Bon, which is ca n'est pas bon ! in our book as Bon Bon is registered as an older Grant Mitsch poeticus. So for the time being we are listing this sweet confection as Bon Bombe : A Bombe being an elaborate and frilly frozen dessert . From a good grower with a great eye for daffs.
11a Y-O
It's hard to fill a truck selling Boslowick, he is so perfect, so broad faced and calming that you only need one bloom to make your day. But please, take two bulbs, or three ! A very well ordered and well behaved split cup, with a profound color. A good grower for us, a perfect thing like most things Ron Scamp. See also Jabberwocky. Limited availability.
2 W-P
A new large cup daffodil from the van der Veeks with an intense deep pink colored corona and pure white mucronate petals . Bregt is recently registered.
3 Y-YYO
An Englehardt cultivar, similar to Conspicuus , but Brilliancy keeps his yellow perianth color, loud cup, and is really tall. Another old timer that brings real, perennial, spring glory to the bed and landscape. Unlike us, the petals get slender and slim with age. Small availability,
2 Y-GYY
An easy going monochromatic yellow coloration with a well-rounded perianth, Broadwalk Beauty is show daffodil that makes it easy to find a consistent and flawless bloom. Hard to find mostly because my fingers type "boardwalk" instead of "broadwalk." Perhaps some reference to the catwalk on the fashion show runway: Broadwalk Beauty is very tall like Jerry Hall. Very small stock.
1 Y/W- P
Yellow and pink-cupped trumpets are a special, rarified group in the world of daffodils, highly sought after with most being showstoppers. Bronzewing is perhaps more sophisticated than the rest, a Brian Duncan bruiser with four inch blossoms and a corpulent cup. The petals have a fade to white at mid rib creating an even greater contrast with that big ole rich-pink cup. Not a back bencher.
2 W-P
Brooke Ager brings a lot of love and excitement wherever she goes. An intermediate, a dwarf and a large cup, she stands out with a substantial and intense rosy pink cup. There is some echo of the cup color into the petals. This well regarded daff a bright and attractive contrast to the rockery and close up beds. The rich colored cup along with a trim rounded perianth and stylish anthers makes her a show bench natural.

Section:Pseudonarcissus N. hispanicus subsp. Bujei
Note : We have also seen this species identified under Section:Nevadensis
Qdaffs is dedicated to offer the lengthiest list of species narcissus to our horticulturally minded friends. We do expect that we will be accused of cultural appropriation by our fiercely partisan Spaniard friends. Oh well, valuable little buggers, but itLJˆÇ‚Üs not the Elgin marbles that we are slipping out of Iberia.
6 Y-Y
A fragrant and early little cyclamineus offspring of Gipsy Queen, Bunnie Bee is another miniature from the universe of tiny flowers by Walter Blom.
4 Y-Y
This long celebrated double is new to our list. She is a magnificent creature and as old as the hills, as fresh as the dawn. Good for all uses and certainly as a conversation piece. I seldom see Butter and Eggs on the bench, but in a historical group certainly one to have. Fabulous and luxurious North, South, East, and West.
7 Y-Y
Anyone referring to a flower named 'Buttercup' elicits all kinds of confusion. Are they referencing a Ranunculus, using a generic term for jonquils that bloom freely in the South, increasingly as an alias for One of the several daffodils registered under that name? We offer the historic Rev. Engleheart jonquilla 'Buttercup', a strong grower with large flowers more reminiscent of a historic small cup. Rare. Brings intense happiness to the gardener. Smells good.
13 Y-Y
Plain yellow perfection in a species that is new to our list. Section Apodanthi. Floriferous with unblemished form. Throws many scapes and blooms with ease. At the top of the fertility scale.
1 W-W

Camilla Clara Kate is so robust and substantial that we think it is time to close the book. A stem like a utility pole, a bloom without weakness. An example of why we love small cups. A lovely competitor that ought always to be in your quiver as it is always easy to find a flawless bloom.
8 W-Y
Canaliculatus - An important Tazetta that is grown commercially in large numbers. A historic, an ADS Classic and an ADS miniature. On commercial acreage lists in Holland it is categorized as a species. Pollen and Pod fertile. We maintain a small stock that is hand harvested and graded apart from the large commercial growers. Floriferous, bright and fragrant. Mentioned as an "erratic and fussy bloomer"1 in Southern zones 8 and above.
1. Daffodils in American Gardens 1733-1940, Sara L. van Beck, 101
2 Y-YYO
A shorter snouted large cup that is richly colored and rich in substance all over. Canny Choice is very much a show daffodil- there is more orange to coax out of the cup than we show here. Doesn't sunburn. Canny choosers choose Canny Choice.
12 Y-O
Canyon Wren belongs to the inscrutable "miscellaneous category". Bright in color and spirit Canyon Wren is a tazetta x triandrus cross that could be mistaken for a jonquil. A Grant Mitsch Bird Series cultivar. Scented. Elegant. Show it with a sign in the window that says "I am not a miniature".

8 W-OOY
An Avalanche / Matador cross from the master of tazettas, Bill Welch. Most any narcissus centric superlatives apply to Mr Welch's tazetta seedlings : fragrant, substantial, robust, long-lasting, colorful. Be prepared to receive very large bulbs making very large plants each with multiple scapes.
"Bulbs, they light up your yard without electricity "
8 Y-O

Dainty Miss is a siren's song in the garden. An all-white jonquil she goes it alone, only one two-inch perfectly appointed, dainty-cupped flower per stem please. Wanting a chorus of Dainty Miss for your garden is only natural. Compelling. Benchable. Highly mucronate. Miss Dainty is an ADS Classic, Wister Award winner, a mid century spell of Grant Mitsch witchcraft.
I am a bit dubious as to the advisability of classing this as a jonquil hybrid, but its pedigree lends validity to this placement. A most de- lightful little flower that might be compared with Xit, but it is larger and a flower of more rounded form. Grows much more upright than Ocean Spray. The very flat over- lapping perianth, and small saucer shaped crown are glistening white. Hardly eligible for the miniature class, but a beautiful addition to the smaller varieties sometimes designated as intermediates.

It's a Grant Mitsch variety, known for their perfection and health. Volume discounts.

Well-named Frostbite is a spontaneous poeticus sport, extra white pointy petals intruding into the cup. Widely variable except that Frostbite retains an overall hexagonal corona shape, analogous to snowflakes. Scented Frostbite brings a lovely blast of cool to the late spring border when all of the other daffodils have melted. An intermediate, Frosty is attractive in a vase , for us blooms with Spanish Bluebells and Tulip Maureen. You will be pleasantly surprised by the the scent.

Normally we superlatives but we are quite okay with calling Gay Kybo one of the most beautiful narcissus blooms ever. Deep and lush white petals evenly articulated with deep orange corona bits. Stunning in any garden and a big beauty on the show bench.
Gay has had a dramatic life, she has gone from rare , to huge productions, to infirmity and back again : today she ie again very rare. Gay Kybo is part of a larger series : Gay Challenger, Gay Time, Gay Song, Gay Tabor that are all beautiful and now mostly gone from the trade. If you are able to find any of the Gays, you should acquire them for your garden. Gay Kybo is rumored to be a rescued discard and named after a (winning) race horse, or something more scatalogical.

Alec Gray-bred daffodils dominate the commercial trade by sheer volume grown. Scores of acres of his highly successful, miniature tazetta Minnow are grown each year, mainly for pot culture. Minnowlet is a modern descendant of Minnow, being a small and neat monochromatic split cup. Two and a half inch flowers with concise Star of David petals, well designed collar. An ADS Intermediate.

A feisty little filly, Miss Klein is a jonquil hybrid, likely from Rupicola. Impossibly small bulbs make a vigorous plant, with often three ( four ?) blooms per stem. On the mini end of miniature she is a good one to have for the rock garden or cutting.

Bill Welch's take on daffodil Avalanche. There is an easily recognized perfection to Miss Meliss blooms, she is genuinely tall, strong, floriferous, and fragrant. A truly great cultivar.

It is hard to find a description of a bulbocodium that does not use the hackneyed term "whimsical", along with the appellation " Hoop Petticoats" which went out of style like a century before the demise of Poodle Skirts. Two thirds of all bulbocodiums registered have been registered in this century , the 21st.
This family of narcissus have a will to live and bloom against all odds. But their beauty comes also from being something primordial, na‘ve and completely impractical in design. For such a small little flower they are full of pathos and joy. Mitimoto was bred in Tasmania and was one of the first products of a new wave in Bulbocodium breeding. A lot of drama in a petite plant. An ADS Miniature.

A perfectly rounded white and yellow small cup from Clive Postles. Cute as a button and promiscuous. Very limited.

We list more miniature daffodils than pretty much anyone, and not a single one of those miniatures was conceived in the Netherlands. Our Dutch brethren bequeath upon us an impressive array of daffodils of great stature, bright color and breadth of bloom : here is another example of all that Lowland largesse. A very large, muy grande, and colorful, muy colorido, bloom on a landscape-grade stem. Muy Bien, very good! With a little gentle-fingered suppression of the ribby-ness and natural reflex in the perianth Muy Bien can be a competition contender. From Carlos van der Veek.

We are running out of synonyms for ostentatious to describe Carlo's lovely seedlings. Superfly, fancy, fancy-pants, yes a fancy-pants trumpet, white until the frilly yellow corona's edge. Vigorous grower, not registered, new introduction in 2023.

My Sweetheart's is exemplary of trends in late 20th and early 21st century daffodil breeding: Intense color over size; broad and overlapping petals; overall rounded shape and flat profile. Of all of Dr Reed's colorful seedlings I think this is my favorite: strong and easy to grow.
2 W-YYP
Stunning and colorful large cup possessing an inner light. In Dutch Nemmemee translates to " take myself (there)" . This daffodil took us there on first sight.

An abundance of broad, substantial, wavy and white flowers on a scape bring a spirit of opulence to the bed, bench, and bunch. Nickelodeon is a modern poetaz, from Grand Monarque, and from New Zealand too. A remarkable flower that we recommend without a moment's hesitation.

The chestnut is that the English hybridize for the singular competition bloom, where the Dutch breed robust and bright landscape giants. But the lines are increasingly crossed or blurred depending on your point of reference. Night Circus is a Hollander that seems more comfortable on thr show bench than in the broad vista planting. A round, coy and well-behaved bloom.

N.x odorus var rugulosus
An intersectional cross between N.jonquilla and N.pseudonarcissus or N.hispanica that has been blooming freely since before the Age of Enlightenment. Absolutely feral in the American South. Perennial and fragrant, odorus has many nicknames: Campernelli, Single Campernelle, Rugulosus.
For the time being we are considering Rugulosus to be a variant of N.x odorus.

We offer two White Orange Cyclamineus daffodils : Orange Comet and Bell Fly. But it turns out that this color combination is not common at all. Of these two Brent Heath's Orange Comet achieves a much more robust orange in the cup. For just a few dollars you too can put heavenly bodies in your beds, borders, containers and rockery. This cultivar is no longer commonly found in the trade.

The bulbocodium you will most likely find today in the commercial trade, Oxford Gold was widely adopted by large growers soon after its introduction,
Fulfills the copy editor's demand " I told you I wanted short and punchy."
A robust grower with an upright habit and full on chrome yellow color. Perhaps Oxford gets its virility and fragrance from its species Jonquil pollen parent. Probably not a miniature, makes a large bloom and plant for a 10.

Papaya King was a street front hot dog stand on 86th street in Manhattan (aka Nieuw Amsterdam) where a student, blue collar or office worker could get a dog and delicious tall Papaya drink for under a dollar. From the cool sands of the Dutch surfside of the English Channel comes this baroque and lusty Yellow and Pink split cup. Historically a lot of daffodil breeding has been by English-speaking men. But Petra Vogt from Germany is an outlier who doesn't even wear tweed. Her eponymous flower is so very nice, it can win on the bench and has "echten Wow-Faktor" in the border. Did you ever see anything like that rim?
This daffodil is unregistered, and has been known informally as Petra and Petra's. It is a healthy grower certainly suitable for the landscape.

With broad yellow petals and a deeply red colored small cup Pimpula is an outspoken and contrasty bloom. We have seen it show very well on the bench, but this Duncan hybrid appears NOT to be registered at this time.

Poet Hellenicus N. poeticus var. hellenicus, section Narcissus If you hear an ancient voice in your garden it will likely emanate from the wizened face of a poeticus Narcissus. Yes, named after the ancient poets: Homer; who spoke and sang the virtues of the species . Being a poet in the Bronze age meant that you were essentially a performer of epics that took days to recite, the audience depended on the poet because they couldn't read. This flower returns for us every spring to retell the story. Primordial, spellbinding, and fragrant.

On the march to year round daffodils Polar Hunter is the vanguard; an April / October romance of a fall blooming viridiflorus species crossed with a spring bloomer. Polar Hunter breaks ground in late winter and proceeds to blossom at a leisurely pace. Because of its conspicuous substance, green-ivory color, and long lasting abundant blooms, florists and landscape designers take notice of this attractive cultivar.
A bloom of remarkable quality, we see it a lot in competition, while there may not be a lot of division 12 opportunities in any given daffodil show there is not much competition either.

There is a back story to "Pops Legacy". It originated in New Zealand but wasn't recognized until it was a seedling in Pennsylvania. The OPS stands for Open Pollinated Seedling. POPs makes a terrific flower that is so easy to show with a substance and readily apparent quality of bloom that really puts it apart from other White / Yellows. For me the real story is that for such a nice cultivar I have shockingly few to offer.

When tulips are fringed, their spiky rims denote them as a Crispin type . But daffodils don't have a cool term like "Crispy" to declare a prickly cup because they didn't need one, until now. Erlicheer is a long time favorite of southern gardeners and florists for nearly a century. It was however, being sterile, a genetic dead end until Bill Welch engineered a successful cross resulting in Rachel's Magic Spell. Ice Follies is one of the most common daffodils you will see along the roadside, long marketed as a white daffodil as with time its cup fades from yellow to white. Slim Whitman, named for the county singer of yore, is a sport of Ice Follies yet its frilly and broad cup retains it color in a chorus of yellow ochre, saffron and gold. Also endowed with an iron will Slim blooms and increases North to South, singing a sweet ballad in the vase or yodeling across the holler in a landscape installation. For no discernible reason it is unusual to see anyone in North Holland wearing a hat. Given the relentless wind and rain it is hard to fathom why, but my Dutch friend claims that he doesn't wear a hat because he doesn't want to go bald. But when the sun comes out in spring and falls on the Netherland's pates there is an outbreak of communal mass ecstasy. The baroque and unbounded joy expressed by the daffodil SunDazed is exemplary: A collision of ivory and mango frills and folds. Like any worthy landscape daffodil it blooms completely out of the leaves. By Carlos van der Veek. This daffodil is unregistered.

While a bit variable, as doubles can be, it is easy to get fine, competition quality blooms.

Here's a compact and sunny daffodil that we are always happy to meetup with in the Spring.. Tangerine Beauty, an intermediate, has a uniquely fruit colored cup . A breathy yellow color brushes across the well-formed white petals. Grows equally well in the North and the deep South. Good on all points.

As Daffodil cultivars go , Tazetta Compressus is one of the oldest, emerging from the Netherlands long ago. Thirteen blooms on a scape. A great Southern daffodil. ADS Historic.

N. pachybolbus, section Tazettae
One of the few species that also makes a first rate garden daffodil. Perfection in a small package. Everything you could want in a companion: petite, perfume quality scent, brilliant white color, with a bright serene countenance. Yes, the letters o and u in the name were reversed once upon a time and we are stuck with the misspelling.

Everything a cyclamineus should be, sharp, good in numbers, very early. But the Alliance is from Saint Keverne an older and fecund large cup daffodil.

A very dependable pink cupped cyclamineus, The Foxtrot is easily distinguishable by the evenly deep-colored cup. Easy to show and makes a nice clump in the rockery and garden bed.

The Godfather easily produces the largest blooms of any daffodil in the family. Flowers are a full five inches across with a proportionately large softly-colored cup. Strong stemmed and long lasting The Godfather stands out like Gulliver among the Lilliputians. We are kind of proud to have it in our garden - we get to ask visitors if they would like to meet The Dom of Daffs. Recent van der Veek introduction.

Herr Sander's eponymous seedling glows with a depth of color, substance, and vitality that is jaw-dropping, first time, everytime. A new high water mark in terms of daffodil quality, this triandrus is a cross of Ice Chimes and Fairy Chimes. Named for the hybridizer by the registrant as encomium for his work in narcissus. You won't believe your eyes at first.

The late German horticulturist Theo Sander's extensive work in coaxing fertile offspring from Jonquil crosses was methodical and groundbreaking. Here we can appreciate one of his many seedlings, Theo's Gold is on first site striking in its substance, profound color and overall virility. This a remarkable plant that is tirelessly interesting.

Yet another bi-colored Daffodil ? Yet this newly registered trumpet, Thijs has obvious superpowers : a dwarf and an intermediate with vigor and a rakish profile. Great possibilities for pot culture and the curated border.

When you need an early white here is a new introduction: some frill in the cup and definitely white all over, This Love is particularly good for forcing. Limited Numbers. From the love doctor, Carlos.

Many breeders are in search of burn-proof small cups. If you have such a delicate and beautiful flower as Three of Diamonds you can avoid all that by plucking it early. An early seedling from Ms. Gripshover.

An older Duncan seedling, Tiger Moth is consistent with good substance and even color in the not elongated cup. Cyclamineus are a bit more shade tolerant than their taller daffodil relatives.

Like other division 12's Tiny Bubbles makes a lot of blooms per scape, but blooms perhaps more well-formed and elegant than the others. Tiny Bubbles is often found on the bench, particularly as a team player in miniature and other collections. Astounding planted in large numbers in the informal garden. A modern classic from the gentleman of southern daffodil culture Brent Heath.

Bright and curvy every place a daffodil ought to be bright and curvy. Trena makes a peerless competition quality bloom and is very good for forcing. Early show-stopper in the garden. Once well-known Trena is no longer in the commercial trade. A truly great daffodil that we will always grow, and always list and recommend.

An all white seedling from Brian Duncan where species triandrus pollen is placed on the super breeder jonquilla Hillstar. Triple Choice seems reliably throw three pendant blooms per scape.

From the prolific Brian Duncan we offer three show daffs that are in the vein of the classic lipstick-rimmed small-cupped yellow daffodil Pacific Rim: Burning Ring; Ring Fence ;Triple Crown ;. Although all throw flawless blooms, we personally would wager Triple Crown by a nose except that in the UK they Award the Triple Crown to Rugby players not horse and jockey.

A very broad show daff with a delicate apple blossom pink color gradation to the cup. The cup is not crenulated or toothy, making for few or no nicks to the perianth. From Brian Duncan, a newer seedling.

Daffodils are cold loving flowers; we shiver a bit when someone gives a daffodil a tropical name. But this is an American bred, beefy golden pink double that can take on any latitude, Cancer or Capricorn. Strong stem and long lasting, you will want that. Fertile. Best for cuts. Quantity pricing.

Last year we listed this s fabulous sun on sand colored double as "Sex on the Beach". It sold very well and drew a lot of Lookie Lous. But the Royal Horticultural Society was not so amused when the suggested name showed up on the registration form. Chastened, we have fallen back to the much less lascivious name Tropical Sensation. . "Sandy Cheeks" was also summarily dismissed. Still a solid double daff when you want some sun and fun.

Miniature Trumpets sometimes struggle with substance, no so with the lovely Trousdale from the late Mr. Blom. Just brushes up against the the size limit as to what can be called a miniature.

Tuckeri is one of the rarest things that we have ever listed. A naturally occurring intersectional hybrid, it has been listed as a cross between N. hedraeanthus and N. fernandesii. But our Spanish friends say it is a cross between fernandesii and N.blancoi :
N. hedraeanthus is an endemism of the Cazorla Segura Mountains and the Villas. Remarkably different in size and shape. Besides, it's made of calcium soil and higher altitude. The N. Blancoi on the other hand is Sierra Morena endemism, acidic soil and doesn't require so much altitude. Larger in size and other morphology. I invite you to look in our publications both and compare them carefully. One more reason: Fernandesii is not in Hedraeanthus zones at all..

A Division 12 arising from a cross of two species : N.assoanus and N.Cyclamineus. Flowers themselves are a bit more distinguished from other 12's. By measurement an ADS miniature, a dwarf and a feral, early blooming creature. Because this plant reliably makes two blooms (Twins!) per scape it is not classified as a cyclamineus but accordingly as a 12.

Twink is a hundred year old historic that shows all of the charm and free spirit of the older doubles. Flower can make three distinct layers of petals giving a bit of organization to the explosive show. Bright and beckoning. One of the best doubles for the South. Said to be high in galanthamine content in case you are brewing any pharmaceuticals at home.

If we had a cool name like Vendell we too would be sharp, cool and handsome. Coloration like Queen of the North the petals and cup, yet rounder and made for competition.

A new tazetta from the late Theo Sanders with remarkably deep and colorful cups. Averages three large blooms per scape. Named by Carlos van der Veek "Thank you" in German for all the good work Herr Sanders did for the daffodil. Newly registered, limited numbers available. A truly choice cultivar.

One of the last cyclamineus seedlings from Grant Mitsch, Vineland is about as reflexed as a cyclamineus cross can be. Smooth and even color overall.

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his "Billy" boiled ,
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me."
Chorus:
Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda,
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his "Billy" boiled,
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me."
Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong,
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee,
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag,
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me."
Up rode the squatter, mounted on his thoroughbred.
Down came the troopers, one, two, and three.
"Whose is that jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag?
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me."
Up jumped the swagman and sprang into the billabong.
"You'll never catch me alive!" said he
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong:
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me."
This daffodil is not currently registered.

Unbridled BTUs coming off this pugnacious pink large cupped from the van der Veek powerhouse. You can feel the color, but won't be able to describe it. One of the best things about floraculture ? It's solar powered. This daffodil is currently unregistered. 2023 Release.

An older, yet newly registered exhibition quality pink cup from Brian Duncan. Wasteland Pearl is reference to a Japanese kind of pearl jewelry, but some virtue may be lost in the translation. Smooth and orderly with rich color.

When people first meet Waylon they remark about his bright amber color. Waylon is additionally a beefy double on a substantial scape, a good player in the vase mixed with tulips, leucojum and polyganatum. Makes a dramatic bandmate resulting in a very sunny ebullient border. Not sure how he will do in the judge's eye, but he does have great eye catching susbstance in the perianth-corona folds.

At one time it was said that you couldn't win top prize at a U.K. daffodil show without entering a bloom of Goldfinger. One year the grower of Goldfinger mixed-up the stock with another variety : subsequently the next Spring there was collective panic across the British Isles as the daffodil blooms emerged. Westerwind is from a group of Brian Duncan gold trumpet seedlings heretofore never registered. Like its Westerly named siblings Westerwind is a Goldfinger x Disquiet cross.

We have enjoyed this double for several years in a container and in the border. What a Feeling is a cross of a viridiflorus and the double daff Wave. Like other viridiflorus crosses it is durable with great substance exhibiting a will to bloom -- very much an improvement on Wave. At a glance it is reminiscent of White Lion but more baroque with a singular, soft color, We hope to see this cultivar succeed as a florist's favorite .

White Lady is an old Engleheart variety that is maddeningly similar to Queen of the North. Having spent much time looking at the two I can say that if you showed me one flower and asked me which, I could not say. Show me one of each of them together I could easily pick out White Lady. She had a deeper color coalescing at the rim of the cup. Also lightly scented.
It is difficult to identify the old small cups from their shape alone: their form changes greatly as the bloom matures. I am sure that at one time long ago some reprobate mixed a stock of White Lady and Queen of the North together further compounding the confusion. Seagull is also similar.
Like most of the old small cups White Lady is as tough as an iron maiden, blooms well out of the leaves, and a top choice for a sparse vista (aka "Naturalized") planting. ADS Historic.

An easy and smooth wave of a white small cup, White Spring is an English bred Tall Daff. Extremely Limited.

In a previous incarnation we were not about soft colors, and abhorred even the suggestion of beige. But we fell hard for Wild Honeyon first sight; it throws tall, substantial, consistent and perfect blooms easily. Feels like a reverse bi-color, but is not classified as such. Incredibly long lasting through heat and wind, dare we say, a superior cultivar on many fronts.
8 W-P
When wild things occur in the nursery you could get a floriferous little tazetta with translucent shellfish-pink cups. How are you going to keep them down on the farm when they have seen this one? Wildly Romantic in so many ways, nearly overlooked, Wild Romance is a Soprano x dubius cross from Gamemaster Duncan.

Will Scarlet has been in the trade as long or longer than any other daffodil cultivar but we seldom see him around any more. Renown for his deep color and vigorous growth he was a commonly grown garden daffodil. Like many first generation crosses Billy boy is the product of two species daffodils : N. abscissus x N. radiiflorus var. poetarum. Being fertile both ways Will was bred a lot in his salad days, not so much lately to our knowledge. Tall and late, good for the border, sparse vista plantings, and cutting. ADS Historic.

A Brian Duncan jonquil that slowly unfolds to all white with a green eye. Brings a soft and romantic patina to the vase, brings a gift of the Blarney to the bench. Wonderfully late, three blooms to the stem. A popular item.

Some flowers are always shucking and jiving and waving in the wind, trying to get the attention of any passing pollinators : both the winged and the tweed-wearing types. Winks a bright intermediate from Badbury Rings doesn't have to do much more than, well.. give a wink. ADS Intermediate.

The only thing more free-spirited than the bloom on this cultivar is the thought processes of the person who named it. A loose coalition of petals in whisper-soft white and pink bloom out of the leaves on a sturdy scape: We are looking forward to pulling our Woo Woo from the cutting garden as a filler in Spring arrangements. Not sure how a Daffodil Judge can or will evaluate this flower.

Alec Gray bred a lot of terrific miniature small cups : Segovia, Sundisc ; This Daffodil on DaffSeek but Xit has always caught our eye. White blossoms make a cumulus cloud-like display. Exciting in the bed and on the bench, there is a lot of joy to go around. Grows well and can make a tall stem. One of the very best in Narcissusdom.

Like one of our favorites, the miniature and spirited daff Xit, Yellow Xit is just as jubilant as its parent, but as you may surmise it has yellow in the corona. ADS Miniature. Not sure why this does not appear to be an ADS classic.

A mango-colored large cup that is richly folded and richly colored like a few other recent seedling from Carlos van Der Veek. Substantial flower, strong stem. Earlier known as Zypani from the time of the Spanish occupation.
