The daffodil diggers of North Holland consider themselves to be tough guys. It is never good to be “soft” and they will let you know it, early and often. But here is the softest colored pink cup ever, and where does it come from but straight out of tough guy land. I think my florist friends will swoon and soften for Beau Beauté. She is a bit like High Society that has completed a course in anger management. Really remarkable color. New introduction from Carlos van der Veek.

Burgerbrug is a town in north Holland that is a hotbed of daffodil culture. Burgerbrug translates loosely to “The Citizen’s Bridge”. Unless you go down to the actual bridge, which is a kind of floating, single-lane drawbridge contraption, then you are in the neighborhood of “Burgervlotbrug” - The Citizen’s Floating Bridge. Not for the faint of heart.
This is Carlo’s encomium to his hometown and I am genuinely stunned at its beauty, an overlapping perianth update to Queen of the North, or something along those lines. New Introduction in 2023. Good stock.

A flamboyant, substantial, and free spirited double, Bella Ciao is a recent van der Veek introduction. Large blooms, a good grower, currently rare and limited but she has higher aspirations.
We are partial to the Yves Montand version (yes Yves was Italian).
And the people who shall pass
(And all those who shall pass)
Oh Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful! Bye! Bye!
And the people who shall pass

Will tell me: "what a beautiful flower"

A Palomino horse has a single “cream” gene. Cremellos have two. The van der Veek stables have bred a lot of terrific trumpets, or near trumpets that are great in the landscape and not at all like the usual trumpet fare on the bench. We just fell head over heels, or rather hoof over fetlock for Cremello, a color so soft as not to detract from the muscular shape. New introduction.

Perfectly hexagonal white and peach broad split cup will put a hex on your garden bed. Recent van der Veek introduction.

Put on your dancing shoes for a recent and reliably pink colored split cup from Carlos van der Veek. Split cups tend to bloom early and hold well, take them for a spin in the vase. For all of his "Dance"named cultivars, I have never seen Carlos on the dance floor.

The condor is the largest land bird of the species, but darkly colored and ugly. El Condor is perhaps the largest cyclamineus cultivar, but bright and lovely and aerodynamic as the bird. A recent van der Veek introduction.

Large and sunny, Hello Sunshine is a soft lemon colored behemoth of a trumpet from Carlos van der Veek. Perianth is ovate, shouldered and mucronate, the funnel-shaped cup is frilled and crenate. New Introduction, good supply available.

The amorously named I Love You makes a peerless beautiful white bloom. A perfect balance of restraint and joy, I Love You is a strong grower who will take on many lovers at the show. Large cupped.
I have a favorite one... “I Love You”. That's one that I bred myself and it won first prize at the show in England. then it was still only numbers. And all the old guys were talking about the daffodils and I thought I'd make fun out of them by calling it “I Love You” so now they have to say “I Love You” all the time. - Carlos van der Veek.

Daffodil love is a playful affair. Jeu d'Amour's lobed cup transitions from pale yellow to a deep crustacean pink. Broad, white, mucronate perianth of great substance. Breathtaking in the bed and vase. A recent van der Veek introduction. Jeu d'Amour is

The van der Veek bred “Love” series has many flamboyant expressions of love. Loving Her is a pointedly double triangle bloom with overlapping petals and a rich orange snout. Say it loud I am big and proud, and amorous. Easy to select a perfect bloom.
2 YYW-YYO
An ostentatious and colorful newer introduction from the house of Veek. The color is very pleasing to the eye, the form we are calling “modern baroque”.
1 W-WWY
We are running out of synonyms for ostentatious to describe Carlo’s lovely seedlings. Superfly, fancy, fancy-pants, yes a fancy-pants trumpet, white until the frilly yellow corona’s edge. Vigorous grower, not registered, new introduction in 2023.
2 W-YYP
Stunning and colorful large cup possessing an inner light. I think Nemmemee translates to “take me there”, not sure if it is slang, a contraction or a colloquialism. We got taken at first sight.

A recent introduction ; a feminine white jonquilla, two to a scape, with a delicate pink blush at the rim. From Carlos van der Veek , as is the contemporaneous jonquil Amore Mio . Not sure if this daffodil is named for a person, or is an affirmation as in “Say yes to love”.

Horace said “Carpe Diem”, but I don’t think he would be prepared for the gear-faced reverse bi-colored trumpet Seize the Day. Hits on all of the cylinders, it is an audacious daffodil. Large, it blooms out of the blue strappy leaves. Recent introduction from Carlos van der Veek.
