A recently introduced double that is most like a lotus blossom when it opens a mild- yellow with an alluring symmetry. As Ambon matures into clear white and yellow it gets wide and wild. You will easily be able to select a very stunning bloom. Best as a stem, in the landscape Ambon blooms a bit in the leaves. This Daffodil is named for a city in the Moluccas in Indonesia, once a Dutch colony.

This recent Mark Vandervliet double is not registered, and being a flower previously unseen I was perplexed by the size of the bulb, a really big bulb. The double flower is equally as big and supremely well organized and detailed. Like many sumo-sized doubles she blooms in the leaves a bit, so better for the vase and the bench than the border. I would like to have a platoon of Big Girls.

An Englehardt cultivar, similar to Conspicuus , but Brilliancy keeps his yellow perianth color, loud cup, and is really tall. Another old timer that brings real, perennial, spring glory to the bed and landscape. Unlike us, the petals get slender and slim with age. Small availability,

Burt House is another narcissus progeny of Brian Duncan legerdemain - 4 inch neutral-white overlapping petals with an intense pink funnel-shaped cup. A showstopper. Rare.

Anyone referring to a flower named 'Buttercup' elicits all kinds of confusion. Are they referencing a Ranunculus, using a generic term for jonquils that bloom freely in the South, increasingly as an alias for Tête-à-Tête? One of the several daffodils registered under that name? We offer the historic Rev. Engleheart jonquilla 'Buttercup', a strong grower with large flowers more reminiscent of a historic small cup. Rare. Brings intense happiness to the gardener. Smells good.

A bright, contrasty and colorful jonquil, Chappie is a miniature a that is welcome in most any rock and closeup garden bed. The rounded light yellow perianth matures to near white, making her even more alluring. Late 20th century. Can work the bench.

Cherrygardens is pale pink cup that excels on the show bench with broad rounded white petals. Touch of green at the base of the cup ending in a deeper pink rim. Very tall with four inch flowers. Pollen and seed fertile. Very limited stock.

Towering over the tazetta bed every year is Chinita, an original poetaz with a very broad flowers and unusual clear primrose color. Pick it early to protect the cup from sunburn, the petals from blanching. Singular.

A Palomino horse has a single “cream” gene. Cremellos have two. The van der Veek stables have bred a lot of terrific trumpets, or near trumpets that are great in the landscape and not at all like the usual trumpet fare on the bench. We just fell head over heels, or rather hoof over fetlock for Cremello, a color so soft as not to detract from the muscular shape. New introduction.

Put on your dancing shoes for a recent and reliably pink colored split cup from Carlos van der Veek. Split cups tend to bloom early and hold well, take them for a spin in the vase. For all of his "Dance"named cultivars, I have never seen Carlos on the dance floor.
