Because not only Less is More, Smaller is More too. At one time the ADS miniature list was established by committee. Recently it has been defined as a cultivar with single flower less than 50mm across in natural spread. Or for multi-floreted daffodils a natural spread of less than 72mm for the entire floral mass. We pride ourselves in offering the largest list of miniatures to our customers because we are miniature lovers too. This category includes, naturally, many species.

Arguably the most successful daffodil breeder of all time, this miniature all-white trumpet is an encomium to Alec Gray. Stunningly well formed. A joy wherever he goes. Garden State bred.

Here's a pedigreed child: poppy is a species jonquil and mumsy a species triandrus. Angel's Breath is a vigorous grower and should be widely adaptable. We also list her sister, Angel's Whisper, who is similar. About 20 years old, Tasmanian bred. Small and robust. ADS Miniature.

April Tears is an Alec Gray cross of species N.jonquilla and N.triandrus. An ol dfavorite of the division. Blooms too late to be of much use above zone 7a, Seed parent to the terrific Tripartite, similar to Hawera. Triandrus seem to prefer slightly acidic soil over alkaline.

A new introduction, Arctic Bells is a bulbocodium from Walter Blom. It is classified as a Yellow-Yellow, but it is more of a white flower, in the way that White petticoat is white. We were surprised to see the seed parent is the perfect bloomer : Border Beauty, picture attached. Who would think of that ?

N. assoanus subsp.assoanus var.assoanus. Section jonquilla. Native to Spain and southern France. A lovely grower, good for breeding.

Hands down our pick for a white miniature daffodil. Aviva from Leone Low, a charming small miniature with clear star perianth and trumpet Leone named this daffodil after the daughter of her maid of honor. Aviva is the Swahili word for life. ADS Miniature.

Here's a lively new bulbocodium introduction. Cup is lightly ribbed. She is not registered as such, but for the time being we are listing it as Ballroom Belle. It was acquired as Blom Hoop 2 - 146.

Bebob is an Alec Gray miniature Jonquil with rich two-toned yellow color. Ma and Pa Bebop were both species, Daddy appears to be a poeticus. Confident like Mary Lou Williams and punchy like Dizzy Gillespie. Scented and petite.

Camborne is an Alec Gray miniature all-white trumpet. Registered posthumously. Long and frilly cup, matures to pure white. This is one to have in the rockery. Tiny little baroque thing. Used as a pollen parent with species cyclamineus. ADS miniature.

Canaliculatus - An important Tazetta that is grown commercially in large numbers. A historic, an ADS Classic and an ADS miniature. On commercial acreage lists in Holland it is categorized as a species. Pollen and Pod fertile. We maintain a small stock that is hand harvested and graded apart from the large commercial growers. Floriferous, bright and fragrant. Mentioned as an "erratic and fussy bloomer"1 in Southern zones 8 and above.

A most demure all yellow bulbocodium from Mr. Blom, Capella is reserved in that most of the sexual parts are tucked neatly within the cup. Soft color, nowhere near brassy, chaste form. Scented and long lasting.

A bright, contrasty and colorful jonquil, Chappie is a miniature a that is welcome in most any rock and closeup garden bed. The rounded light yellow perianth matures to near white, making her even more alluring. Late 20th century. Can work the bench.

A miniature, rich yellow jonquil, Curlylocks is bright and ruffly - all of the charm and companionship of a lap dog without the shedding. One to three one inch pugnacious blooms on a scape. US bred. Rare. ADS Classic.

Cyclataz is the lovechild of a species CYCLAmineus and the TAZetta Grande Soleil d'Or . Vigorous, floriferous, wild in form, rich in color. Cyclataz does well in pot culture. ADS Historic. ADS Miniature. She is also the parent of three notable offspring : Alec Gray's Jumblie, Quince, and Tête à Tête.

N. dubius var. dubius, section Tazetta
Dubius is an important tazetta section species daffodil occuring in Spain. Spectacular detail, pure white with a miniature form. Dubius sprouts early, requires little cold and needs substantial protection in colder zones.
Our selection of dubius is not the most beautiful that you can find. But most dubius make no offsets: one bulbs is created as the mother bulb dies. Our selection is one that reliably makes offsets, which will be of value to those interested in breeding.

Honey I shrunk the Trumpets! Alec Gray focused his miniaturization beam on most every division of daffodil. Elka is a perfectly formed white tiny-trumpet that will inspire a lot of bending and craning. She opens yellow but matures to all white. Elka is equally at home in the rockery or on the show bench program. Used in England for pot culture. Named for some daffodil ladies named Elizabeth and Kate. ADS miniature.

Englander is a cyclamineus seedling that retains just a bit of wildness tempered with high sophistication. Sporting a real long schnoz and slim reflexed petals. Like most Brits, Englander, being a cyclamineus, is not well suited for a afternoon siesta in the blazing sun. An ADS miniature . Fab in the pot and the rockery -- Don't be shy, we grew a lot of Englander.
