Miniatures
61 Cultivars Listed
Because not only Less is More, Smaller is More too. At one time the ADS miniature list was established by committee. Recently it has been defined as a cultivar with single flower less than 50mm across in natural spread. Or for multi-floreted daffodils a natural spread of less than 72mm for the entire floral mass. We pride ourselves in offering the largest list of miniatures to our customers because we are miniature lovers too. This category includes, naturally, many species.

Dubius is an important tazetta section species daffodil occuring in Spain. Spectacular detail, pure white with a miniature form. Dubius sprouts early, requires little cold and needs substantial protection in colder zones.

1 YYW-WWY
A cross of two species pseudonarcissus, Gipsy Queen is a soft white and greenish-yellow miniature trumpet from Alec Gray. Queenie is a strong grower and commands attention in the bed, pot or on the bench. 1 W-W

7 Y-GYO
Little Rusky is a really, really little Jonquil. Like the other bigger Ruskies we know, he is intense and rewards with painstaking attention to detail. When you catch a flash of the green eye, you too will understand. Handsome as the Tsar in form and color.
Miniatures can have a reputation of going AWOL after a season or two. Little Rusky has returned for duty, increasing, over the years for us with little care at all. The scape pushes the long lasting blooms higher and higher as the late season progresses. ADS Miniature.
5 Y-Y
Daffodil Mary Plumstead is an Alex Gray Triandrus Jonquilla cross. 2 to 5 blooms. ADS Classic

A modern cultivar, a cross of species assoanus and Gipsy Queen Medway is a jonquil that sports a starry perianth and a deep cup. Smells good. Way cute. 10 W-Y
It is hard to find a description of a bulbocodium that does not use the hackneyed term "whimsical", along with the appellation " Hoop Petticoats" which went out of style like a century before the demise of Poodle Skirts. Two thirds of all bulbocodiums registered have been registered in this century , the 21st.
This family of narcissus have a will to live and bloom against all odds. But their beauty comes also from being something primordial, naÔve and completely impractical in design. For such a small little flower they are full of pathos and joy. Mitimoto was bred in Tasmania and was one of the first products of a new wave in Bulbocodium breeding. A lot of drama in a petite plant. An ADS Miniature.
7 WWY-Y
A colorful silver and gold jonquil, Oma seems a little more compact and bright than Edged in Gold and New Baby, although I have yet to compare them side by side. Newer release: this daffodil is not registered.

A selection of species Asturiensis. Section pseudonarcissus. A primordial being with a formidable will to live. A tiny daffodil, so early, with purity in color and form. As this is a selection of a species, Carlos has named it Piccolini to differentiate. When this flower breaks free from the ground in early spring one's mood swells from hope to faith.
7 Y-Y
A species on species jonquil cross by Grant Mitsch that is upright and fabulous in the garden. Pixie's Sis has been around for a long while, but has suffered some major career setbacks through no fault of her own. We are lucky to have a few to offer as she makes her way back to a full recovery. A truly great jonquil for the bench and garden, North and South1. ADS Miniature.

Rikki don't loose that number, send it off in a letter to yourself. A miniature rupicola x poeticus from Alex Gray , with a deeper yellow color in the cup than Sundisc or Segovia. A bright, contrasty, and happy little jonquilla bloomer. ADS miniature. ADS Classic.

A tiny, greenish yellow triandrus that is so wasp-waisted it looks like one half of an English Christmas cracker. Gets its sweet fragrance from its daddy, the jonquil henriquesii. ADS Miniature from Walter Blom.
1 Y-Y
Roundita is like the student who perennially gets a desk in the front row. Named as such because she is so round all over, also a trumpet and a miniature. Behaves like a larger cousin : one scape, one bloom per bulb. Such a vigorous grower she will be voted most likely to succeed. Good in the pot, and and amenable playmate in the rockery.
2 Y-Y
A tiny large-cup from the species N.rupicola, as early and as cute as it gets in the land of Daffodils. An ADS miniature by measurement if not by declaration. From Brian Duncan.

3 W-Y
A miniature with gigantic star power Segovia shines in the rockery and is indispensable in a collection of miniatures. Always waving and winking the landscape and takes shade remarkably well for us.
6 W-W
Snipe is early and photogenic. Extremely perennial and cyclamineus proud. A truly great cultivar that is at home in the rockery and in the pot. We are offering it in the cut flower category, its blooms are too small to cut, but forced in a pot it is long lasting and adorable : we think the florists will know how to use it.
Not to be confused with the 6 W-Y cyclamineus ´†Jack Snipe†ª, who is nice , but by comparison is lacking in charisma.
7 Y-YYO
Alex Gray was one of the most prolific breeder of daffodils of the mid 20th century. Of his many tiny Jonquils seedlings I like his Stafford the most for its bright color scheme. Take two, they are small. ADS miniature.
7 Y-Y
Stocken is thought to be an older selection of N.willkommii. Precious little thing. ADS Miniature.
7 Y-Y
On points alone, Alec Gray's Sun Disc is a perfect cultivar : Extremely late, rounded, miniature, long stemmed, long lasting, increases, looks right at you and smells good. Widely available, but we list it because you just need a few to get going. Sells on the cut market when all of the other daffs are long in the tooth.

N. pachybolbus, section Tazettae
One of the few species that also makes a first rate garden daffodil. Perfection in a small package. Everything you could want in a companion: petite, perfume quality scent, brilliant white color, with a bright serene countenance. Yes, the letters o and u in the name were reversed once upon a time and we are stuck with the misspelling.
3 W-GWO
Many breeders are in search of burn-proof small cups. If you have such a delicate and beautiful flower as Three of Diamonds you can avoid all that by plucking it early. An early seedling from Ms. Gripshover.
12 Y-Y
Like other division 12's Tiny Bubbles makes a lot of blooms per scape, but blooms perhaps more well-formed and elegant than the others. Tiny Bubbles is often found on the bench, particularly as a team player in miniature and other collections. Astounding planted in large numbers in the informal garden. A modern classic from the gentleman of southern daffodil culture Brent Heath.
1 W-W
Miniature Trumpets sometimes struggle with substance, no so with the lovely Trousdale from the late Mr. Blom. Just brushes up against the the size limit as to what can be called a miniature.

Tuckeri is one of the rarest things that we have ever listed. A naturally occurring intersectional hybrid, it has been listed as a cross between N. hedraeanthus and N. fernandesii. But our Spanish friends say it is a cross between fernandesii and N.blancoi :
N. hedraeanthus is an endemism of the Cazorla Segura Mountains and the Villas. Remarkably different in size and shape. Besides, it's made of calcium soil and higher altitude. The N. Blancoi on the other hand is Sierra Morena endemism, acidic soil and doesn't require so much altitude. Larger in size and other morphology. I invite you to look in our publications both and compare them carefully. One more reason: Fernandesii is not in Hedraeanthus zones at all..

5 Y-YWW
A beautiful bloom named after a hummingbird by Grant Mitsch. Woodstar is a late blooming reverse bi-color triandrus and the fledgling of two feral parents - N. triandrus subsp. triandrus var. Triandrus and N.jonquilla. Woodstar seems to

Alec Gray bred a lot of terrific miniature small cups : Segovia, Sundisc ; This Daffodil on DaffSeek but Xit has always caught our eye. White blossoms make a cumulus cloud-like display. Exciting in the bed and on the bench, there is a lot of joy to go around. Grows well and can make a tall stem. One of the very best in Narcissusdom.
3 W-Y
Like one of our favorites, the miniature and spirited daff Xit, Yellow Xit is just as jubilant as its parent, but as you may surmise it has yellow in the corona. ADS Miniature. Not sure why this does not appear to be an ADS classic.
