Poeticus Daffodils
4 Cultivars Listed
The species poeticus occurs from western Europe through Austria into the Balkan peninsula . It was likely the first daffodil species under cultivation and is associated with the story of Narcissus by the poet Ovid - hence the name 'Poeticus" . Many modern cultivars get their height, white perianth, and breadth of petals and perfume from poet crosses. In general Poeticus have a small cup with the classic Green-Yellow-Red color combination. Poeticus seems to be perennially the smallest division : most descendants tend to be classified as tazettas, small cups, ... We also suspect that many poet descendants may be difficult to keep. The species tend to be the last to bloom in the Spring, bringing a sweet perfume to soften the remorse that arises at the end of the daffodil season.

Yes, named after the ancient poets: Homer; who spoke and sang the virtues of the species . Being a poet in the Bronze age meant that you were essentially a performer of epics that took days to recite, the audience depended on the poet because they couldn't read.
